Transfer News: Liverpool interested in bringing Ousmane Dembele to Anfield
According to the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are very much interested in bringing Ousmane Dembele to Anfield. Jurgen Klopp is also believed to be a long-time admirer of the Frenchman.
Since Dembele’s contract is expected to expire next summer, the Reds could sign him on a free transfer. The 24-year-old forward is free to sign a pre-contract agreement in January with foreign clubs should he decide to leave Barca.
Liverpool will do well to increase their attacking depth following Xherdan Shaqiri’s move to Lyon in the summer. The Blaugrana forward could add more quality, pace and depth to the frontline.
However, the French national’s injury woes do pose a concern for the Merseyside club. An injury-prone player is the last thing that Liverpool needs after the crisis they faced last season.
Dembele has made 118 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions so far. During the same time, he has missed an astounding 96 games due to injury. He is currently out with a hamstring injury and is yet to feature this season.
Barcelona is in a dire financial crisis at the moment and have asked Dembele to reduce his current wages. The winger earns around £200,000 a week at the moment and the Spanish club have been in talks with his representatives over a contract renewal with reduced wages with no success.

The winger joined Barca in a move from Borussia Dortmund which costs around £135.5 million. Dembele has failed to make a significant impact at Camp Nou and Joan Laporta could cut costs with him.
A move to Anfield would be beneficial for Liverpool looking at our current situation. Klopp would have a potent winger in his ranks for now and the future if he does end up making the switch to Merseyside.
