Former Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas hails Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as world’s best opponent

The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder made 350 appearances in the Premier League alone for the Gunners and the Blues, and won the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euros with Spain during his prime years.

During the Twitter Q&A (h/t Liverpool Echo), one question, in particular, caught the eyes of fans as Fabregas named the toughest opponent he has ever faced during his career.

Without giving any explanation, the Spaniard named the Liverpool legend as the toughest opponent he has ever faced. The Englishman was a force to reckon with in his time and led Liverpool to important silverware during his heyday, sometimes all on his own.

The pair were both at the peak of their powers during Fabregas’ time in the Premier League and have come up against each other in some epic battles.

In another question about Gerrard, Cesc was asked who he thought was better out of the former Liverpool skipper and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

Fabregas cunningly replied: “I hate comparisons.” The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder was then asked who he thought was the best false nine in world football.

The Spaniard said Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is the best in that position. “Firmino easy,” wrote Fabregas on Twitter (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Elsewhere, Fabregas left Gunners fans with a smile on their face as he named Alexander Hleb as the most under-appreciated player he ever played alongside.

Having made his debut for the Gunners at Highbury, Fabregas made 304 appearances for the North London club, scoring 57 goals and registering 96 assists.
