Andy Robertson reveals Liverpool and Mohamed Salah are enjoying positive talks regarding a new contract
In an interview with Sky Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson revealed that the ongoing renewal talks between Mohamed Salah and the club are going in a positive direction, and he believes soon they’ll be able to come to an agreement.
The Egyptian is currently on a dream run, scoring goals for fun irrespective of the opponent. He has now scored in 10 consecutive league games this season, and his current form doesn’t show signs of slowing down. He also broke Didier Drogba’s record and is now the African player with the most goals in the Premier League.
For the Reds, his form isn’t the concern; the difficulty lies regarding his contract, which will expire in 2023. The fans won’t like losing a key player like Salah and Robertson is no different.
The Scottish skipper has no doubt that Salah is the best player in the world right now. Given his performances of late, it is hard to argue with the sentiment.
“He’s an incredible player, and I think at this moment he’s the world’s best, and he’ll want to continue that.”
He also praised Salah’s consistency and longevity at a competitive level. As for the current contract situation, he thinks they are trying to reach an agreement that works well for both parties.
“Let’s leave it up to the club and Mo – I’m sure everyone’s trying to get to an agreement that can work for everyone.”
Keeping together a winning side!
The Liverpool management also knows this and are trying to get the situation resolved as soon as possible. Everyone at the club wants Salah to stay so does Andy, who is overwhelmed by Salah’s hunger for scoring.
“I hope that I can continue to play with him. I love playing with Mo, and I love playing with all the lads around me, and you don’t want to see anyone leave.”
Robertson has been a part of Jurgen Klopp’s incredible Liverpool side and is keen to continue playing with his teammates. A number of first-team stars have penned fresh terms in recent months and Salah will hopefully follow suit.
