The Ivorian international is having an enormous impact on the AC Milan side that is challenging for the Serie A title this season. The 24-year-old midfielder has made 19 appearances this season and remains a key member of the Rossoneri side.
Kessie has so far bagged three goals and one assist across all competitions for the Italians. His influential role has also earned him the captain armband albeit not on a permanent basis.
Kessie is currently serving the final year of his contract. The midfielder hasn’t signed a renewal contract yet and Stefano Pioli’s side’s efforts to tie him down to a new deal has hit a roadblock.
It is believed that the Rossoneri offered him a deal worth €6.5m per season. However, the player intends to acquire at least €8m. Thus the contract talks have been stalled between the sides.
Liverpool have been interested in Kessie for some time. However, they face competition from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and French giants Paris Saint Germain. Now, it is believed that Pochettino’s team have agreed to pay the wage deal Kessie is eyeing.
The Reds has been successful with their usual midfield of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcântara and Fabinho. However, they are all ageing stars and are not getting any younger.
Thus, there are concerns over the Reds’ long term future. Jurgen Klopp has included Curtin Jones in the mix-up. However, the English youngster is yet to reach a level of dependence and reliability.
