Transfer News: West Ham United ready bid for Liverpool forward Divock Origi

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke (h/t Daily Express), West Ham are preparing to pay the transfer fee to sign Liverpool cult hero Divock Origi. 

The Belgian has earned the status of a clutch player during his term at Liverpool. He is known for scoring in important games and has not disappointed this season either.

The 26-year-old scored a 94th-minute winner against Wolves and bagged a crucial goal against AC Milan in the final Champions League group game. The former LOSC Lille player has bagged five goals and two assists in 10 matches

His impact is evident, but Klopp has failed to find a place for him in the Reds starting XI on a regular basis. Origi’s lack of game time has increased the possibility of an Anfield exit in recent times. Liverpool even tried to sell him in the summer, but no team was ready to meet the price tag. 

West Ham and Wolves have been interested in luring the Reds star. But because of Jurgen Klopp’s team’s high demands, they didn’t make a move until now. However, it is believed that West Ham have decided to pay the asking price. 

Divock Origi has often shone as a super-sub for Liverpool. The Belgian forward scored in the semi-final of the Champions League against Barcelona to complete an unimaginable comeback that has etched his name into club folklore. Reds won the UEFA Champions League that season and the 26-year-old bagged a goal in the final. 

Despite the heroics, the arrival of Diego Jota from Wolves has only made it difficult for him to get game time. But his game-winning performance against Wolves suggests that he deserves more respect from the German manager.

Without a considerable amount of game time, Klopp may not be able to keep hold of the Belgian striker, and thus Liverpool should find alternatives in the market.

In Origi, they have a player who has more often than not made the difference when called upon. Whether that relationship is not drawing to a close remains to be seen.
