Liverpool target three forwards in January who can be the ‘next Diogo Jota’

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano via Anfield Watch, (h/t Express), Liverpool could dive into the January transfer window to sign a player who could be the ‘next Diogo Jota’.

With the Reds enduring a miserable festive schedule where they have failed to win any of their last three Premier League games, the club could look into signing players that can turn their fortunes around. Given their lack of depth in certain positions, it could be a necessity.

Although Liverpool have been reluctant to sign players in January during previous seasons, Romano believes they could sign someone if they can find a player like Diogo Jota.

“They will jump into it if they find an opportunity like Diogo Jota – a player with a good price with no crazy price tag, and with good skills that match Jurgen Klopp’s ideas.”

Romano says that if the Merseyside club find the right opportunity, they will look to sign a winger as a priority this month.

With star forwards Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, Liverpool are missing firepower from out wide. With Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino out injured and Roberto Firmino testing positive for Covid, Jota remains the Reds’ lone senior attacker.

There are three forwards that the club could target this January and could possibly meet the ‘Diogo Jota’ requirements – Leeds United winger Raphinha, West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, and Villareal ace Arnaut Danjuma.

Diogo Jota has been a revelation since joining Liverpool.

We are desperately seeking some energy after the last few performances, and the January transfer window comes at a perfect time to dip in and sign someone exciting to spark some life into the attack.

With Salah and Mane unavailable for the next few games, it has almost become a necessity to sign a forward this January if we are to keep up with Manchester City and Chelsea in the race to the league title as well as win some silverware in the domestic cup competitions.

Raphinha and Bowen are proven in the Premier League, but could set us back with the high prices that Leeds and West Ham would quote for their players. Although Danjuma has dazzled against Manchester United in Villareal’s Champions League games this season, he remains a bit of a wildcard and has not proven to be consistent.

To sign the next Diogo Jota is not easy, since it is rare that a player adapts well to our system and also comes for a relatively cheap price. Hopefully, Klopp and the board have a target in mind that gives us the push we need for the rest of the season.
