PL step up their move to land UCL winning former Liverpool ace

Arsenal ‘accelerate’ interest in signing former Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum from Paris St. Germain

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool’s rivals Arsenal have accelerated their interest in acquiring former Reds star Gini Wijnaldum from Ligue 1 juggernaut Paris St. Germain.

The Dutchman only joined the French side in the summer from Liverpool. He is already being linked with a move away from Paris after failing to get regular minutes on the pitch.

Things have clearly not worked out for the Dutch midfielder at the Parc des Princes, and now Arsenal are making efforts to bring Wijnaldum

back to England just six months after his departure.
Arsenal have accelerated their interest in acquiring former Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum from Paris St. Germain.

The North London club are looking to add Wijnaldum to their squad in an effort to pair him up with Thomas Partey as a double pivot, and also to add more depth to their squad.

Wijnaldum is a Premier League veteran, having played in the league with Newcastle United and Liverpool. His experience could come in handy for Mikel Arteta’s young Arsenal side.

With the 31-year-old understood to be unhappy with his lack of match action in the French capital, a return to the league where he made his name could interest the Dutchman.

Gini Wijnaldum left Liverpool to join PSG just last summer.

It would certainly hurt to see one of our former fan favourites join our rivals, especially since we could use that experience and depth in the middle of the park in a season where our midfield has been the weak link.

Wijnaldum will forever be remembered at Anfield for setting up the aggregate 4-3 comeback victory against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final, scoring twice against the Spanish outfit to seal Liverpool’s path to the UCL final.

At a time where our midfield has been plagued with injuries, COVID, and inconsistency, having a player like Wijnaldum would lift the mood and certainly improve the team’s fortunes. The Dutch international was consistently reliable during his time at Anfield, and Klopp would certainly be ruing missing out on his return to the Premier League at a time like this.
