According to Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool could pursue Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde in the summer. The likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, along with bitter rivals Manchester United and Chelsea are also being linked with the French defender.
Kounde has become a pivotal part of Los Nervionenses at such a tender age. The 23-year-old has already featured in 117 games
for the Spanish club to date and also played a crucial role in guiding them to the UEFA Europa League trophy in 2019-20.His performances on the field have attracted a lot of attention and his ball-playing abilities add another exciting dimension to his game which could possibly help the team to construct the attack from the back. The French international is currently thought to be valued at £68million.
The Blues came close to signing the former Bordeaux player last summer but the asking price of £60million was thought to be a deal-breaker for the defending UEFA Champions League winners.
The Reds suffered grave injury issues last season which meant that the club was forced to play without most of its senior players for a major part of it. This left the Anfield outfit fragile at the back with Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams having to fill in on several occasions last campaign.
That being said, the Merseysiders seemed to be headed on the right path with the likes of Virgi van Dijk
and Joel Matip forming the main crux of the backline once again this season. The EFL Cup winners also have a young Ibrahima Konate who has played a substantial role from time to time.Joe Gomez is another available option who could fill in capably should the opportunity arise at any given time. With all of these players available in the roster, one has the impression that Liverpool have great cover in said position and would rather be looking to target another area should a lucrative deal present itself.
Whilst the French professional footballer has shown his capabilities with the Spanish club, he has a plethora of suitors lined up for his services. This along with the act that Sevilla wouldn’t want to let go of their prized asset so easily could make this a potentially expensive deal to pursue.
