Contract News: FSG ready to make Mohamed Salah highest paid player in Liverpool history

According to the Athletic (Subscription Required), Fenway Sports Group are willing to make Egyptian Superstar Mohamed Salah the highest-paid Liverpool player ever but not at the cost of disrupting their wage structure.

The 29-year-old winger has been prolific for the Reds since joining from Roma in 2017 showing levels of consistency that had elevated him to superstardom at Anfield.

With his contract expiring in 2023, the Reds are keen on tying down their Egyptian star on a long-term deal. However, there seems to be a contract stand-off between the player and the club due to disagreements regarding the wages offered.

The scintillating winger is said to be very happy at Anfield and wants to stay beyond 2023 but he expects to be paid in accordance with his status as one of the best players on the planet.

The Reds and FSG are apparently ready to make him the best-paid player at Liverpool, but not at astronomic wages and definitely not at the cost of disrupting their wage structure which has served them so well for a few years now.

This stand-off has led to a fear at Anfield that they may end up losing their talisman for free come the summer of 2023. The Reds will definitely not want to let go of him, but if an agreement is not reached on the terms of a new contract, they may have to reconsider their options the following summer.

Polarising opinion?

Salah’s importance to Liverpool is immense. He is by far the most important player in a team of superstars and has been brilliant this season, already reaching 20 goals for the campaign in the Premier League.

A new bumper contract for the Egyptian on the terms he demands is apparently polarising opinion among the supporters, with some believing that the Reds must pay him whatever he demands while others feeling that no player should be bigger than the institution.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that a solution is found to the Salah saga as soon as possible, and more so a conclusion that is favourable for him and the Reds. The off-field issues don’t seem to affect the Egyptian’s performances whatsoever but he will also want a clarity on his future soon.

Whether Salah deserves the contract he is asking for is debatable. While undoubtedly one of the best players in the planet at the moment, the forward is 29 already and offering him a long-term contract on astronomical wages may not be the way forward for the Merseysiders.

More Liverpool News

Right now, the LFC fans adore Mohamed Salah. He is already a superstar at Liverpool. That is something that the ex-Roma man can use as leverage in any potential negotiations because he knows the fans would be enraged if their best attacker leaves for nothing next year.

It remains to be seen how we approach this situation. Paying him massive wages can certainly instil a feeling into other Liverpool superstars where they would feel they deserve a raise as well. It is truly a tough situation to deal with but this is why Klopp and co have specialists sitting in the negotiation table and sorting such matters out. Let’s be patient and hope for the best.
