Transfer News: Liverpool among four European giants interested in Cody Gakpo
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Liverpool are among four European giants who are interested in the signature of talented Dutch winger, Cody Gakpo.
Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old forward and will have to shell close to £42 million for his services. The Dutchman has been impressive for PSV Eindhoven this season and could be ready to take the next step in his career.
The exciting young winger is enjoying a fine season in the Netherlands, scoring 16 goals and assisting 15 in 37 matches so far. He is only bound to improve provided he continues to develop in the future.
His contract with the Dutch club runs until 2026 but it is claimed that the club has agreed to allow him to leave this summer if a suitable offer arrives. This is good news for Liverpool who could enhance their attack further should they land the Eindhoven man.
A product of the PSV youth system, the 22-year-old winger has already won four senior caps for the Dutch national team. There is no doubting the starlet’s talent and it is no surprise that the Reds are interested in him.
A player for the future?
Given the potential shown so f ar, it’s pretty evident that Gakpo is not the finished article yet. Despite having over 31 goal contributions at the time of writing, the Premier League is a completely different ball game and it remains to be seen if the Dutch starlet can translate the same numbers in English football.
Having just signed Luis Diaz, there is no dearth of options at left-wing. Although the 22-year-old can play through the right and the middle, it seems very unlikely that Gakpo could get playing time for the Reds.
Other clubs also being interested in the Dutchman does not help the cause with such interest only possibly raising Eindhoven’s asking price. At this point, Gakpo is not a priority for Liverpool.

Although learning from a manager like Klopp will be of immense help for Gakpo, not getting regular minutes will hamper his development. Despite the obvious talent, it makes the best sense for both parties to not proceed with this lead.
