International Roundup: How Liverpool players fared on national team duty yesterday

International Roundup: Liverpool stars Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz on the scoresheet for Colombia and Portugal

Liverpool forwards Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz scored goals for their respective countries last night in the World Cup qualifying matches.

Jota netted in Portugal’s 3-1 win over Turkey to help the team keep their hopes alive to qualify for the mega event in Qatar. The Portuguese team now has a final against North Macedonia which they will look to win and progress to the tournament.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring for Columbia in their 3-0 win against Bolivia to keep their slim chances of qualification to the World Cup intact. His goal was a brilliant finish, cutting in to shoot a curling shot into the far-right corner of the goal.

Liverpool prospect Neco Williams, who is out on loan at Fulham, started in Wales’ 2-1 win against Austria, thanks to a brace from Gareth Bale. Wales are looking to progress to the World Cup and it is likely that Williams will start the final against Czech Republic again.

Fabinho was brought on in the 82nd minute in Brazil’s 4-0 win against Chile and having already qualified for the showdown in Qatar, Tite’s team are in a comfortable position. Takumi Minamino played 84 minutes in Japan’s 2-0 win against Australia helping his team qualify for the World Cup.

Come back unscathed

The much anticipated Egypt-Senegal clash could have seen two superstars of the Reds, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, going head-to-head to claim a spot in the World Cup. The Senegalese team beat the Pharaohs in the final of the AFCON earlier this year to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.

The Reds will be hoping that all their players who are out on International duty come back unscathed and are fit and ready for the hectic schedule.

Liverpool are still going strong in 3 competitions, having already won the Carabao Cup. Jurgen Klopp’s team are in the quest for an unprecedented quadruple and the German manager will be wanting the entire squad at his disposal to help him in the mission.

It remains to be seen how the rest of the Liverpool players perform for their National teams but whatever happens, getting injured would be the biggest fear for Klopp and the Reds. Our first game after the game is against a resilient Watford side on April 2nd, followed by a potentially title-deciding clash against Manchester City on April 10th at the Etihad.

A two-legged quarter-final against SL Benfica in the UEFA Champions League sandwiches an FA Cup semi-final against the Cityzens, before we prepare for derbies against Manchester United and Everton. This would perhaps be as intense a month as this club has ever had, and we would need our squad to be as fit, focussed and firing as they possibly can be.
