Transfer News: Liverpool handed a transfer boost in their pursuit of Marco Asensio
According to Radio Rai (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have been handed a transfer boost in their pursuit of Marco Asensio after Carlo Ancelotti admits that he is not sure what the future holds for the talented Spaniard.
Asensio has developed himself into a reliable winger for Real Madrid. Scoring ten goals and bagging one assist in 36 matches across all competitions, the Spaniard has been impressive this season as well.
Due to this impressive performance throughout the campaign, the 26-year old has come onto the radar of Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal.
Asensio has a contract with the Madrid based team until 2023. Even though both parties want to extend the partnership, the Spaniard has been unsuccessful in convincing his team to give him a significant pay raise. As a result, contract renewal talks have been halted between them.
This could give Liverpool a huge transfer boost as they would love to snap up Asensio if he was available in the market this summer. Speaking about his player’s future, Ancelotti said,
“Asensio has great quality. I don’t know what’s gonna happen with his future – although he is talking to the club to discuss the contract. He’s always helping the team”
Where will Asensio play?
Apart from youngster Harvey Elliott, there isn’t any proper backup for Mohamed Salah in the right-winger spot. The Egyptian has been clinical against top teams, but his recent dip in form has shown the need for an alternative.
Asensio’s ability to operate in all the forward roles makes him a viable option for Liverpool. Along with top-notch dribbling skills, the Spaniard’s shooting abilities are also impressive, which could help him break defensive lines that implement the low block. Being an intelligent player, he knows how to create spaces, which Mane and Salah can attack in attacking plays.
26-years-old Asensio has a lot of peak years left in his legs. His lack of Premier League experience could be a sticking point but the player has the quality to succeed here.
