Virgil Van Dijk expects Liverpool to face a different Manchester United tonight

Speaking to Sky Sports as quoted by the Daily Mail, Liverpool superstar Virgil Van Dijk does not expect the game against Manchester United to be as straightforward as the last time these two sides met in the Premier League.

Klopp’s men take on the Red Devils at Anfield tonight as they look to keep the pressure on Manchester City in the Premier League title race. Every game is crucial for the Reds as they hope to see the Cityzens slip up in the final weeks of the campaign.

The Reds are coming off the back of a resounding 3-2 win against Manchester City in the semi-final of the FA Cup and will be hoping to continue the good form in tonight’s clash. Given the list of games to come, Jurgen Klopp and co will flourish should they keep their momentum going.

The Reds ran riot last time they faced United in the Premier League as they trashed the then Soskjaer managed side 5-0 in the first encounter. However, Van Dijk is of the opinion that Man United have changed and expects a tough game tonight.

‘The games that we played over there were always going to be tough, but to come away with 5-0 quite easy and simple was not what we all expected before the game but that doesn’t mean we didn’t enjoy it as much as we should.”

“But that game is out of the way. They made changes after that game so they’re in a different mental state at the moment “

Crucial for the title race?

Liverpool and Manchester City have been subject to title races in the past but the current one is nothing short of spectacular. In some ways, it brings back memories of the 2018/19 campaign where we eventually fell short.

Both these teams are separated just by one point with Klopp’s men trailing City by a solitary point. Whilst it is not difficult to catch up, the title is out of Liverpool’s hands at the moment. They will be hoping for the Cityzens to slip up.

Liverpool find themselves in a hunt for an unprecedented quadruple. They have already secured the Carabao Cup and find themselves in yet another final in the FA Cup. They are in a race for the Premier League title and have Villareal to face in the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp will know that his team will have to be on top of their game. They cannot afford slip ups of any kind. With that in mind, the game against Man United is as crucial as it gets. Klopp’s team might have bettered United 5-0 last time around but all that will amount to nothing if Liverpool fail to win their clash tonight.
