Transfer News: AC Milan reach an agreement with Liverpool star Divock Origi

According to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), AC Milan have reached an agreement in principle with the representatives of Liverpool star Divock Origi over a free transfer in the summer.

The Belgian international is coming to the end of his contract with the Reds and Liverpool are not keen to renew a new deal for their striker. Origi has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield and considering the abundance of attacking options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, he is better off taking his talents elsewhere.

The 26-year-old striker has achieved cult status in Anfield, scoring important goals over the years. However, he has opportunities tough to come by, playing just 14 games across all competitions this season.

The report claims that a deal with the Italian giants has been agreed upon in principle and it is a matter of time before the transfer becomes official. A move to Italy should give the Belgian enough opportunities to secure regular playtime.

A new start?

Origi is just 26-years-old and still has time on his hands to resurrect a successful yet low-profile career. All he needs is a team that gives him regular game time and the opportunity to shine.

Liverpool will not be losing much if the striker leaves and this is a move that could turn out to be beneficial for all parties. After all, he has largely fulfilled the role of an impactful substitute in recent years.

The Reds may have to sign a backup striker next season but even if they don’t, they have Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah as options to lead the line.

Origi has never managed to establish himself as a star at Liverpool but has time and again proven that he could be a great utility player. Maybe his ascent to stardom is written in Milan and he could turn out to be a shrewd accusation.

At 26, he has every right to seek regular playtime elsewhere. Wherever he goes, the Belgian will always be a cult hero at Anfield.
