Mohamed Salah clarifies his post-match comments after the Liverpool vs Manchester United clash

Taking to Twitter as quoted by Mirror, Mohamed Salah has clarified his post-match comments after the game against Manchester United where he implied that the game was easy thanks to the opposition on the night.

Liverpool ran riot against Ralf Rangnick’s men putting four past David de Gea at Anfield last night as they continue to pile up the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table. Mohamed Salah scored a brace with goals from Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane also finding the back of the net.

The brace was a welcome return to form for the Egyptian who has come under scrutiny in recent weeks for a dip in his performances. Salah roared back to style with two goals against United.

Speaking after the game, Salah seemed to suggest that Liverpool had their win made easy by the way the Manchester United players performed.

“In midfield, they make our life easier, we have a clean sheet here and there. Once we get the first goal, we want the second and the third. It was a top performance by us and hopefully, we continue.”

Salah drew criticism for his comments though, with his quotes being interpreted as putting down the Man United players. However, the winger took to Twitter to provide context to the matter.

A welcome return to form?

There is no denying that Salah’s performances have had a downwards trend in the past few weeks but last night’s performances will be a welcome return to form.

Salah’s importance to Liverpool is immense. He is by far the most important player in a team of superstars and has been brilliant this season. The Egyptian ace has contributed to 30 goals and 12 assists in 42 matches across all competitions this campaign.

The Egyptian needed to go back to producing such numbers if Liverpool are to succeed in their hunt for the unprecedented quadruple this season and he did just that.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that his most important player continues in the same vein until the end of the season as his team look to do the unthinkable between now and the end of the campaign.

The past few weeks have been a small black mark on an almost flawless season that Salah has had. However, the 29-year-old is too good a player to be down for too long. He looks like he is coming back at just the right time.
