Transfer News: Borussia Dortmund increase Jude Bellingham asking price
According to BILD (h/t Liverpool Echo), Borussia Dortmund will demand in excess of £85 million for Jude Bellingham amidst interest from Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window.
The former Birmingham man has been exceptional for Dortmund since moving to Germany. Already an England international, Bellingham is considered to be one of the biggest prospects in world football and although he is excelling in Germany, it may not be long before he makes the return to the Premier League.
Bellingham has been sensational for Dortmund this season with six goals and 13 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. The English starlet is capable of playing in a box-to-box role in midfield, contributing to both the defensive and offensive aspects of the game.
Having already made 12 appearances for the Three Lions, it is very evident that Gareth Southgate trusts his young prodigy. It is not surprising that Jurgen Klopp wants the talented midfielder at Anfield.
However, Bellingham will not come cheap. Dortmund are seeking a king’s ransom for their priced asset and it remains to be seen if Liverpool are willing to make such a substantial investment.
A match made in heaven?
Despite Liverpool’s astounding squad quality, there is no denying the fact that midfield is one area where Klopp’s squad is a little under par in comparison to the other positions.
They have two very talented youngsters in Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott who could turn out to be superstars although the latter’s future seems to lie further ahead on the pitch and not in midfield.
Thiago Alcantara is world-class but struggles to stay fit. Jordan Henderson is ageing and might not have much time left. Naby Keita does not inspire confidence.
There remains a gaping hole in midfield ever since Georginio Wijnaldum left for PSG last summer. Jude Bellingham could just be the answer for Liverpool with the 18-year-old more than capable of filling in or even better Wijnaldum in that position.

Bellingham might just be the box-to-box midfielder tailor-made for Klopp. He would be able to adapt comfortably to the German manager’s high-intensity system and will be able to contribute to all phases of play, something the Dutch midfielder managed to do exceptionally well during his time at Anfield.
Bellingham to Liverpool seems like a match made in heaven. It may turn out to be very expensive though.
