“Too plain”- Some fans react as Nike release official Liverpool home kit for 2022/23 season

Liverpool fans react as Nike release official home kit for 2022/23 season

Nike have officially released the Liverpool home kit for the 2022/23 season as they enter into the third season of their partnership with the Reds.

The American-based brand is globally recognized and sponsors world-famous athletes across different sports. And that is the reason why the Reds penned a new deal with them instead of extending with New Balance- in hopes of making more money.

Kit release day is perhaps one of the most exciting off-pitch events for the club’s fans over the calendar year. They await to see the colours their idols will don for the next year or so as they continue on their hunt for titles.

And Nike seemed to have caught a few supporters off their guards with an official kit release today. There was little to no idea amongst regular fans about the kit coming out today.

Did Nike get it right?

But now that it has arrived, fans have had their say. The shirt seems to be very simple, covered in a shade of red from top to bottom. Most wouldn’t have expected anything other than an all-Red shirt once again.

But there seems to be nothing extravagant on the collar and the accents are all in white. The back of the shirt features the number 97 between two flames, paying respect to the Liverpool fans that perished in the Hillsborough disaster.

The name and number stylings at the back apparently take their inspiration from the city- their street signs. The company also adds that the kit is inspired by the theme of ‘Scouse solidarity’. Jordan Henderson, the club captain, had a few words to say about the launch (h/t Liverpool Echo

):

“We’re all so proud to wear the Liverpool FC jersey and be part of the swoosh family. We know exactly what this jersey means to our fans, and we can’t wait to run out in it at Anfield.”

The online store was expectedly overloaded and fans had to wait in a virtual queue to be able to get in. But that did not last for more than a couple of minutes. Here is how our fans reacted to the club releasing their home kit for the next season just before 6 of the most important games for us this season.
