Liverpool fans react as Real Madrid are confirmed UCL final opponents after beating Manchester City

If you are a Liverpool fan, it was always going to be tough to choose between Real Madrid and Manchester City as our desired UEFA Champions League final opponents.

While Los Galacticos beat us in the infamous UCL final of 2018, Man City have become one of our biggest rivals in recent years. Perhaps, the thought of losing the showpiece final in Paris against the Cityzens was a more harrowing prospect.

The Sky Blues are yet to win a UCL crown and it is a fact that always comes in handy for Liverpool fans when bantering their Man City counterparts. Those who wanted Madrid in the final to exact revenge got their wish at Santiago Bernabeu tonight.

Salah gets Real Madrid wish

Madrid came into this game trailing 4-3 after some Karim Benzema magic at the Etihad kept them in the tie. City took the lead in Spain through Riyad Mahrez in the 73rd minute and were on their way to another Champions League final.

But two goals in the space of a minute just around the full-time whistle shocked Man City’s travelling fans into silence. They looked on in horror as Rodrygo completed a brace to send the tie into extra time and would now be wondering if this can impact their performance in the Premier League, where they lead the Reds by just 1 point with 4 games to go.

A badly timed tackle from Ruben Dias gave a cheap penalty to Madrid, which Benzema was more than happy to put in the net. The La Liga champions kept their composure for the last half an hour and saw the tie through.

Mohamed Salah claimed in an interview after beating Villarreal that he wanted Madrid in the final. And now, he has his wish. Here is how Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to Man City giving away a 2-goal lead to get knocked out of the semi-final.
