Dishing out the Tottenham team news in the pre-match press conference ahead of the showdown against Liverpool (h/t football.london), Antonio Conte ruled out Sergio Reguilon for the all-important Premier League clash.
The Reds take on Spurs this weekend as both teams desperately look for three points in order to meet their respective goals. While Liverpool are chasing Manchester City for the PL title with just 4 gameweeks left, the Lilywhites are in a heated race for the top four.
The game takes place on Saturday night with Liverpool 2nd in the table, just one point behind Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens. Spurs, meanwhile, are 5th in the table, just two points behind Arsenal.
In what comes as somewhat of a boost for Liverpool, Sergio Reguilon has been ruled out for the game by the Italian manager. The former Real Madrid left-back hasn’t featured in his team’s last two league games.
“He is not available. He hasn’t had a training session with us. He is not available. I honestly don’t know, there are only two weeks before the end of the season, whether it is possible for him to come back.”
Instead of the Spaniard, young English full-back, Ryan Sessegnon played as the left wing-back in the 0-0 draw against Brentford and the 3-1 win against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.
Ryan Sessegnon is, of course, a player the Reds were apparently interested in signing from Fulham all the way back in 2017
. The 21-year-old Englishman, who spent time out on loan at Hoffenheim, likes to attack and can be a threat down that flank if not handled properly. If he plays, it is likely that the task of keeping him quiet would be up to our world-class right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold- granted he plays on Saturday. When asked to elaborate if Spurs had any more fitness issues, Conte clarified that there are ‘no other injuries‘.
That means we can expect a full-strength Tottenham this weekend barring Reguilon. Spurs have no other competition to play in this month and hence, would not be very bothered about managing the gametime of their first-team stars.
This is in comparison to Liverpool, who have an FA Cup final vs Chelsea and a UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid to take care of this month. Not that we are complaining, though.
