Liverpool have been urged to secure their own mega transfer after Manchester City sign Erling Haaland

While speaking in an interview with talkSPORT on Tuesday, as quoted by Daily Express, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes Liverpool have to secure a top-notch number 9 striker to respond to Manchester City signing Erling Haaland.

Manchester City announced on Tuesday that they had reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Erling Haaland. If Pep Guardiola’s team finishes all legal obligations, the Norwegian will join them from July 1.

Erling Haaland has performed extensively in the ongoing campaign, scoring 28 goals and eight assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. The Norwegian has been performing at a top level for the last few seasons, and it seems he is ready for English Premier League action.

Haaland is set to become a threat to any direct rival of Manchester City, including Liverpool. If the Norwegian striker picks up his ruthless form upon arriving at the Etihad, it would hurt the Reds’ chances of securing the Premier League next season.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara suggested Liverpool sign a top player in response to Manchester City’s transfer move. Former Crystal Palace midfielder Darren Ambrose, who was also in the conversation, suggested that the Reds should attempt to sign Kylian Mbappe, who hasn’t signed any renewal contract with PSG until now.

“Yeah, I think so. Diogo Jota has been brilliant for them, but he’s gone off the boil a little bit at the end of the season, hasn’t he. Liverpool need to react to Haaland; they have to react to Haaland.”

Blow for Liverpool?

Erling Haaland has already shown the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world. He has all the skills that make a great Premier League striker – physically strong, fast, good in the air and powerful shooting abilities. His addition to City’s quality team will increase their depth and provide Pep Guardiola with ample choices.

This transfer directly concerns Jurgen Klopp, who has given his reaction in a recent interview suggesting that Haaland would strengthen Pep Guardiola’s team. The German manager has put out intense battles with Manchester City in his tenure, and he is unlikely to let Pep Guardiola enjoy the dominance. So he has to find a solution for Haaland.

Even though signing Mbape could boost Liverpool’s ageing forward line, it is improbable that the French star would come to Anfield rejecting the Real Madrid move.

Liverpool signed Luis Diaz in January and secured the move of Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino in last year’s transfer window. Hence, they probably don’t need a forward currently. Keeping the ageing issue of the midfield contingent in mind, they should sign a quality midfielder soon.
