“Best place”- Liverpool superstar told not to let money impact his contract decision

Jamie Carragher tells Mohamed Salah not to let money impact his Liverpool contract decision

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is on a contract that expires in the summer of 2023. This is barely news to anyone at this point, especially LFC fans who grow more anxious regarding the Egyptian’s stay each passing week.

Liverpool fans would understandably be desperate for him to stay but apparently, the winger is asking for an increased salary package. Given that he turns 30 next month, one could understand if FSG and the Liverpool board go on to have their reservations about such a demand.

It is natural to assume that money can play a part in such things. But according to Jamie Carragher on the Blood Red podcast

(h/t Liverpool Echo), the Reds would still be paying Salah enough to keep him at Anfield and the player would be wise to not let money get in the way of things.

“I think he suits the Premier League and the way we play, it’d be a big mistake for him to leave. If it’s a money issue, Liverpool will still offering him a lot of money but Mo Salah is that fit if he signed a four-year contract and played till he was 33.”

Salah is, according to Forbes, the 33rd highest-earning athlete in the world. What he has created at Liverpool is a legacy and if one says he helped the Reds reach the pinnacle, it is also fair to suggest that he may not have achieved all of this if not for Jurgen Klopp and his vision for the Egyptian at Anfield.

What next for Mo Salah?

Carra then claims that Liverpool is the best place for him. And he is spot on. The fans worship him here and he is a pinned starter down the right-hand side for one of the world’s best football teams.

“He still could go and do another four years, he could do what Ronaldo’s doing in another league where it’s about money. This decision should not be about money, this should be about football and this is the best place for him.”

Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are in the same boat but the LFC legend believes that while the Senegalese superstar will pen a new deal, his Brazilian teammate could depart on a free next summer. These three have become synonymous with the club’s success in recent years.

None of them arrived at Anfield from glamorous European clubs and reached the peak of their powers on Merseyside- making themselves a household name worldwide. Our fans should now slowly come to terms with the fact that their era may now be over.

They cannot keep playing at the top level forever. The club has already started to plan for the future with the signings of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz and perhaps, fans should also prepare themselves for heartbreak in case even one of them leaves this summer or next year.
