Liverpool star Mohamed Salah wins Premier League goal of the year award for Manchester City strike
As confirmed by the club’s official Twitter account, Mohamed Salah has won the Premier League goal of the year award for his strike against Manchester City earlier this season.
The goal came in a 2-2 draw against the Citizens and won the PL goal of the month for October 2021. The Egyptian star had 23 league goals this season, which meant he won another PL golden boot- although he had to share it with Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min.
This is perhaps an award Mo wouldn’t really be caring for right now. The match, as much as it hurts to admit, did not really amount to anything.
We ended up losing the title to Man City in the end but nevertheless, it has given us a highlight reel to play for the ages. Salah was ineffective in the loss against Real Madrid yesterday.
There was a lot of noise surrounding him going into the UEFA Champions League final but the team and the former AS Roma star himself failed to live up to the billing. In all honesty, he was lively in the second half.
But his finishing and decision making in the first 45 minutes meant the Reds let go of a crucial spell in the game without capitalising on their chances. Hopefully, this award reminds him of what he can do when he is at his best.
He was terrific for us before AFCON but after the loss to Senegal in the final of that tournament, Salah has been noticeably below par according to his high standards. Mo also scored a similar goal against Watford earlier this season.

That is when he is at his best- when he is taking defenders on and weaving his way into the box. Whatever may be the reason behind his clear drop in form in recent months, hopefully, he addresses it this summer and comes back as the Mo Salah we have come to know over the past five or so years.
