Transfer News: Liverpool left-back Owen Beck attracting loan interest

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool left-back Owen Beck has been linked with a summer loan transfer, which would be a natural progression after a solid season for the Welshman.

Beck was perhaps one of Liverpool’s best performers in the academy last season, excelling in an aggressive role at left-back.

While training frequently with the first team, the 19-year-old made 20 appearances for the under-23s in Premier League 2 and played in six games for the under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.

Under Jurgen Klopp, that experience led to two senior appearances, both as a substitute, against Preston North End and Leicester City in the League Cup- a tournament went on to win by beating Chelsea in the final. Those have been his only two senior appearances for the Reds.

It is now believed that Beck is attracting serious interest from clubs in the Premier League, Championship and Europe and the concerned teams are eyeing taking the talented youngster on loan for the following campaign.

With Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas well established in the first-team picture, breaking into Klopp’s starting XI on a long-term basis will be difficult for Beck, although not impossible given his immense potential.

A loan transfer, potentially in the Championship, appears to be the next natural step in his career growth. Even though he is still relatively young, Beck might benefit from pursuing regular first-team play in the long run. If he can get that at a PL team, then even better!

Jurgen Klopp has a strong track record of developing new talent. Even if the German decides to keep Owen, he won’t have a hard time providing him occasional chances to show his worth at the top level.

Beck has made his debut for Wales under-21s, and he seems set to follow in the footsteps of Neco Williams. Hence, finding the appropriate club would be crucial since it would aid rather than hinder his development.

Williams had a good spell with Fulham where they were promoted to the PL this summer. It is always important to pay attention to the academy- for it can produce some really talented players the club would not have to splash exorbitant amounts of cash on.

Just think of the money a player like Trent would cost if Liverpool wanted to bring him from another club. If Beck becomes even half the player our beloved TAA is, then we will have some player on our hands.
