“I feel blessed”- Winger writes touching farewell message after Liverpool confirm exit

Sheyi Ojo sends touching farewell message after Liverpool confirm exit

Sheyi Ojo has taken to his social media account to post a farewell message just days after Liverpool confirmed that the winger will leave as a free agent.

Ojo signed for the Reds back in 2011 from MK Dons. Since then, he has been loaned out to Wigan Athletic, Wolves, Fulham, Stade Reims, Rangers, Cardiff City, and most recently, Millwall.

Now 24 and at the club for just under 11 years, Ojo only managed 13 senior appearances for us. 11 of those came in 2015/16, the season that saw Jurgen Klopp’s arrival on Merseyside.

But that turned out to be a false alarm, and the saga of Ojo being loaned out on a regular basis continued. As a teenager, he showed promise, but with each passing year, it became clear that he wasn’t going to be a first-team regular for the Reds.

Farewell, Ojo

Liverpool released their retained list for the season recently, and Ojo’s name was not included in it. As a result Ojo, who has been capped by the England U21 team, will leave as a free agent. He wrote on Twitter:

“I feel blessed to have played at this club. Many beautiful moments and memories but most importantly the unconditional support from the fans. I joined Liverpool when i was 14. Never could i imagine the journey it would take me on. Never stop dreaming…”

This departure won’t affect our first-team set-up in the slightest. Some Liverpool fans would have seen the announcement of his departure and wondered how he was still on our books.

As it turns out, Ojo’s name can now be added to a list of wingers that showed potential to be something special at Liverpool but failed to do so. Ben Woodburn is one of them as well, who will become a free agent along with Ojo this summer.

More Liverpool News

Currently, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are the two youngsters likeliest to break into the first team on a more regular basis. As for the English winger, fans would remember him as more of what ‘could have been’ rather than ‘what was’.
