Liverpool pushing for the signature of 26-year-old La Liga star

Transfer News: Liverpool are pushing for the signature of Marco Asensio

According to the Spanish news outlet Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are the principal bidders for Real Madrid striker Marco Asensio.

For Los Blancos, Asensio has a solid track record, and it’s clear to understand why he’s in high demand. In April 2021, he scored a stunning goal against Liverpool in their Champions League quarter-final encounter. Indeed, in 235 games

for the club, he has a total of 49 goals and 24 assists

However, competition is fierce at Real Madrid, and despite receiving a high recommendation from Carlo Ancelotti last season, Asensio hasn’t been a frequent starter.

As a result, the Spaniard might reevaluate his options. He is young at the moment and might be enjoying his peak years, thus he might not be happy to sit on the bench in crucial games, but the situation can change if he moves to a new team.

It is now believed that Liverpool are the ‘main bidders’ for Asensio. Even though Real Madrid values the Spaniard at around £51.7m (€60m)

, the Reds would be able to acquire his signature by paying around £43m (€50m).

However, Liverpool are not alone in the race as it seems Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain have all been tracking the situation around the talented forward.

Transfer News: Liverpool keeping a keen eye on Real Madrid star Marco Asensio

After spending a club-record price on Darwin Nunez this summer, the Reds have significantly improved their attacking line. The Uruguayan joins Liverpool’s assault as a replacement for Sadio Mane for the final fee of £85 million

A third Bayern Munich bid is expected to be approved, bringing the Senegalese striker closer to an exit. Despite Mane’s departure, Liverpool still has a plethora of attacking alternatives. As things stand, their preferred front three will most likely be Mohamed Salah, Nunez, and Luis Diaz.

More Liverpool News:

Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, and Takumi Minamino are there to provide solid support in case any of the attackers pick up an injury or require a rest period in between a busy schedule.

Liverpool won’t be in a position to go out and spend huge money on attackers until absolutely necessary. Nunez is a highly-talented and flexible forward and his arrival would probably fill the void left by Mane. The front line isn’t an area of the game that sorely needs to be added to right now, thus signing Asensio seems more like a luxury.
