Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been advised to move to Manchester United

While speaking to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Paddy Kenny thinks there is no harm for Liverpool in selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Manchester United.

The Englishman joined Liverpool from Arsenal in 2017 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. To his credit, Oxlade-Chamberlain had a strong first season, but an injury suffered in the 2018 UEFA Champions League semi-final against AS Roma proved to be the start of his end.

While the England international continued to play and score goals, the 28-year-old never quite lived up to the expectations placed on him. He was mostly relegated to the role as a substitute, and he struggled to find playing time at the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.

The 28-year-old’s contract with Liverpool expires next year, and given his squad status, he appears to be on the verge of being moved during the summer transfer window.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool are willing to trade him and might want more than £10million for the England international. Aston Villa and West Ham United are also said to be keeping an eye on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s situation.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with a move to Manchester United, and in an interview with Former Premier League goalkeeper-turned-pundit Paddy Kenny has hyped up the possibility:

“He’s a player who hasn’t played much in the last couple of seasons. If Man United are the only club interested and that’s the only possible move for him then I don’t see why not. I think the Ox will want to get out there and play more regularly. Obviously, that isn’t going to happen at Liverpool. Man United would be a good move for him if they can get that one done.”

If he seals this shock move, the Ox would become the first senior player since Phil Chisnall in 1964 to directly move between the two clubs. Jurgen Klopp has utilised the England international as a squad player this season, and he only made 28 appearances for them in all competitions.

Despite the fact that Liverpool’s midfield is ageing, Jurgen Klopp is rumoured to be on the lookout for a new midfielder, hence Chamberlain is quite unlikely to be involved in the manager’s long-term plans.

The Englishman’s choice to join Manchester United could prove to be a wise one, as he stands to gain play time at Old Trafford. Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is still just 28, has plenty of football left in him and a point to prove.

However, it wouldn’t do any good to Liverpool. Conversely, he could inflict serious damage to our team if he is able to rejuvenate his form at Manchester United.

It would be surprising if United turn out to be the only club interested in the talented Englishman. Our supporters would certainly hate it if this move ever happens, and while it could make sense for the Ox’s career, he would burn bridges with his fans at Liverpool.
