Liverpool icon reveals what he thinks of being compared with Darwin Nunez

Liverpool icon Luis Suarez reveals what he feels about being compared with Darwin Nunez

Luis Suarez believes it isn’t fair comparing Darwin Nunez with him as the young Uruguay international will write ‘his own story’ at Liverpool.

Suarez joined LFC from Ajax at a time when LFC fans were worried about Fernando Torres joining Chelsea. His task was not easy- replacing the Spaniard that made himself a cult hero on Merseyside, at least until his move to the Blues.

But he did that and more. Most Reds fans you meet would agree that Suarez is perhaps the most talented player they have seen in Liverpool red, and they won’t be entirely wrong.

He was a complete forward who could pass, dribble, shoot, and head. Being compared with him is an honour for any player, and that is something Nunez has experienced since his move to Merseyside.

Speaking to the Mirror, Suarez admitted that the fact that both players play for the same nation is where the comparisons should end. The ex-Barcelona and Groningen star is optimistic that Nunez will make his own name at the club.

“He (Nunez) will write his own story at Liverpool. He is Uruguayan and he is a forward but that is where the comparisons stop – he is a special player and doesn’t need to be compared with anybody.”

Luis Suarez is an icon at Liverpool.

Both play as strikers and have played for La Celeste together. The duo shares a good relationship off the pitch and if Nunez manages to match Suarez’s record at Liverpool, he would be worth his weight in gold.

Suarez played three and a half years for Liverpool and was worth every penny of the £22.8million we paid Ajax for his services. Nunez has been signed for a bit more- a fee that could rise to £85.4million, to be exact.

And even if Jurgen Klopp might say that there is no pressure on Nunez, Premier League football is unforgiving and it doesn’t take long for people to form their opinions on a player. Hopefully, he hits the ground running in his first season itself.
