Sadio Mane reveals how he said goodbye to Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool teammates after Bayern Munich move

Liverpool legend Sadio Mane has joined Bayern Munich. The news is finally confirmed and LFC fans can finally make peace with the fact that their Senegalese prince is off to Germany.

While supporters did not get to say goodbye to Mane while he was at Liverpool, they now have a 15-minute interview where they can seek closure. After the move to Bayern was done, the former Southampton star agreed to hold an interview at his home, courtesy of Liverpool’s official website.

Amongst the several questions that were asked, one was regarding the way Mane said goodbye to his teammates. The 30-year-old superstar said

“Yeah, sure. After when both clubs agreed [the transfer], I sent a long text to say goodbye to everybody, which is normal. They were sad, as I was, but it is part of life. We just have to accept it.”

It is indeed a part of life. Along with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, he formed one of the most feared attacking trios in world football. Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk were two other players Mane was visibly close to on the pitch.

A big void to fill

Until the days leading up to the crucial UEFA Champions League fixtures in May this year, barely any LFC fan would have envisaged that Mane could leave this summer.

Perhaps we were so focused on Mohamed Salah’s contract saga that we undermined Mane’s contract situation. Like the Egyptian, Mane’s deal at Anfield was supposed to expire in 2023.

As it turns out, the Reds were unable to meet the player’s demands in terms of wages. That is a worrying trend because if LFC want to have some of the world’s best players, they would want to be paid as such.

Signing youngsters and hoping they keep developing them into world-beaters is a good plan but can it always work? Perhaps not. Nevertheless, considering the time this saga went on for, Liverpool fans were eased in when it came to dealing with the star’s exit.

It now remains to be seen what happens to Salah, who is also now into his 30s. Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, meanwhile, will look to replace Mane in the two positions he played for us last season- left-wing as well as centre-forward.
