Liverpool ‘alerted’ by contract situation of teenage midfielder at Steven Gerrard’s club

LFC Transfer News: Liverpool ‘alerted’ by contract situation of Carney Chukwuemeka at Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa

According to Liverpool.com, Liverpool are one of the clubs that have apparently been ‘alerted’ by the contract situation of Carney Chukwuemeka at Aston Villa.

Apparently, the 18-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to the Reds and his current contract expires next year. That means, the highly-rated English star could leave Steven Gerrard’s side for free in the summer of 2023.

If he doesn’t pen a new deal at Villa Park, then this summer presents a good chance for the Villans if they want to get some cash for one of the most highly-rated teenagers in English football right now.

Liverpool’s interest in Jude Bellingham may be one of the worst-kept secrets in football right now, but Chukwuemeka is another young talent that is making waves. He impressed recently for England U19 in the UEFA U19 European Championship.

What should LFC do?

Bellingham, nevertheless, is quite ahead of the Aston Villa starlet in terms of development. He is already a regular for a European giant in Borussia Dortmund and is set to be an important part of Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Nevertheless, while the former Birmingham City man would cost us money in transfer fees, Chukwuemeka can be brought in for free- granted he doesn’t renew his contract at Villa Park. Then again, that situation would also arise next year.

Casey Chukwuemeka could be on his way out of Villa.

It seems wiser to wait and then make an approach for Dortmund’s English star rather than taking risks with young talent elsewhere. Nevertheless, talented youngsters would always be a welcome addition to any team.

The Reds have an ageing midfield with Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner well into their 30s. There is a need for us to future-proof our midfield and Chukwuemeka, a youth product from Northampton’s academy, could be a smart option if the Reds were to pursue him in the future.
