African star’s agent clears the air about his Liverpool wages

PR Agent of Sadio Mane issues response about his wages at Liverpool before Bayern Munich transfer

In a conversation with TV5Monde (h/t Liverpool Echo), the PR agent of Sadio Mane, Bacary Cisse, cleared the air surrounding the Senegalese star’s wages at Liverpool prior to his Bayern Munich move.

The former Southampton star joined the Bavarians this summer with his contract running into its last year at Anfield. One of the potential reasons given for Mane swapping LFC for Bayern was apparently his wages at the club.

As it turns out, Mane did not leave the Reds because his ‘wages were too low’. And that makes sense as well, given that he renewed his contract in 2018 and would be on a good package given how important he was to the club by then.

And Cisse has put an end to those claims once and for all. He even added that the figures that were floating around in the media were lower than what the 2022 AFCON winner earned during his spell at St Mary’s.

“Those are false rumours. We didn’t want to talk about that. A player of Sadio’s caliber can’t be earning the salary that people are speaking about. The numbers circulating are completely wrong.”

Mane’s move to Bayern could be worth £35million in transfer fees. The Reds have reacted to the news of their star winger leaving Anfield by getting a deal for Darwin Nunez over the line.

“Sadio was already earning more than that when he joined Liverpool from Southampton. He extended his contract in 2018 and his salary was much higher than the numbers circulating in the media.”

This again reminds us not to believe just anything that we come across in the media. Mane departed Liverpool amicably and Jurgen Klopp had nothing but nice things to say about the 30-year-old superstar.

The Reds star himself claimed that he wanted a move to Bayern for a new challenge. Having won almost every major trophy under Jurgen Klopp, perhaps Mane wanted to conquer another league- and we wish him all the best in his venture.
