Barcelona were one of the clubs that kept a track of Mohamed Salah and his contract situation at Liverpool. The Reds have now secured his signature until the summer of 2025.
But the Athletic (Subscription Required) claim that Barca contacted Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, to be kept updated on Salah’s situation at Anfield. The saga, however, is finally over and Barcelona can forget about poaching another Liverpool star.
Much to the disappointment of Liverpool’s rivals and those that wanted Salah in their team, the former Chelsea man is here to stay at LFC for another three years. His deal was set to expire in the summer of 2023.
The Reds have already lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich this summer, and losing Salah within the space of 12 months of the Senegalese’s exit would have been damaging- especially for our club’s fans.
Salah is worshipped at Anfield and so, when he clarified that he will stay at LFC for the next season, it really put our board in a dilemma. It meant there was a serious chance of losing one of the world’s best payers for nothing next year.
When the Egyptian joined the Merseysiders five years back, there was optimism surrounding his move. But hardly anyone would have envisaged what was about to follow.
Not only did he win the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles with the Reds, but he was our main goal-scoring threat every season. He has 156 goals for the Reds in just five campaigns here.
Those numbers are hard to replace and even harder to replicate. If he can match that scoring rate for the next three years, he would be worth every penny of the £350,000
