As per transfer news on Football Insider (h/t Bournemouth Daily Echo), AFC Bournemouth have opened talks to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.
The Reds are open to letting Phillips leave for a loan sum this summer despite previously wanting to sell him off permanently. That makes sense in case LFC are finding it hard to offload Phillips on a permanent basis.
The 25-year-old defender was an important part of the Liverpool team that finished third in the 2020/21 season. But since then, he has found it hard to get regular playing time for Liverpool.
That would have been a major reason why he joined the Cherries on loan during the winter transfer window. He played a big role in their promotion to the Premier League.
And he could be reunited with them for the upcoming season. B’mouth would certainly aim to stay in the PL during their comeback season.
For doing that, stability in the team is important. Phillips has knowledge about the club and could aid Scott Parker in his task to secure PL safety.
It is also wise on our part that we are seemingly seeking a loan fee for Phillips. He is in his peak years right now and has shown that he can be an important player for a Premier League team.
While he may not be good enough to become a regular starter for the Reds when our main men at the back are fit, a move to Bournemouth could be the next logical step in his career.
It remains to be seen what comes of this news but this is one transfer that would not impact our starting XI. We have a talented crop of centre-backs and barring a severe injury crisis, wouldn’t really need Phillips that often.
