Crystal Palace take on Liverpool in a pre-season friendly today in what serves as a good match for both teams to prepare for the new campaign.
The Reds have already lost their opening pre-season game against Manchester United by a 4-0 margin in Thailand. Palace, meanwhile, drew 1-1 against Accrington Stanley and won 5-4 against Millwall.
Both teams could be without some key players going into the game. For the Reds, Diogo Jota
is set to miss the game due to suffering what is believed to be a hamstring injury in a recent training session, as per Liverpool Echo.Alisson Becker is also a doubt for the game. For the Londoners, the list of absentees is massive. Michael Olise, Wilfried Zaha, Christian Benteke, and Eberechi Eze are the attackers that will miss out.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi, Will Hughes, Jeffrey Schlupp and James McArthur are also set to sit this one out. Cheick Doucoure and Sam Johnstone have been signed by Patrick Vieira this summer.
However, the duo will not be present in this game. This will be an interesting game for both teams- Vieira has stated that he wants to use this match as a measuring scale to see where his team currently stands.
The Reds would want to avoid another embarrassment at the hands of a PL club after already losing to Man Utd. Jurgen Klopp must take care of our first-team stars in this game.
We cannot afford to risk anyone’s fitness. Of course, playing time is important for them but we must not take these games too seriously and risk injuries.
The Reds beat Palace home and away in the league last season. More of the same today, please! A Darwin Nunez goal would also not be too shabby. Fingers crossed.
