Liverpool are ready to start formal negotiations for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes, according to Correio da Manha (h/t Express). The 23-year-old is said to be a priority target for the Reds.

Other top Premier League clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea have also explored the option. But Liverpool seem to be eager to get talks going with the 19-time Portuguese league champions for Nunes.

Sporting CP are supposedly looking for a fee in the region of £45 million

. But Liverpool are said to be done with their transfer activity for this window after signing Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay.

Liverpool currently have three mega stars in the midfield, with Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson being Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice midfielders over the last couple of years.

Naby Keita might have finally found his feet in English football. The Guinean was one of the key members of the squad last season as Klopp trusted the 27-year-old with more game time than ever before.

Harvey Elliott may also be eyeing a comeback next season after suffering an injury early in the last campaign. The 19-year-old was trusted by the manager in the initial stages of the season before a setback sidelined him.

Curtis Jones has also made a name for himself in Klopp’s plans over the years. The 21-year-old Scouser has come up through the ranks and has been in the fray for a few seasons now.

Fabio Carvalho has also come in and has the ability to play in the middle along with other forward positions. During pre-season, the 19-year-old has been tried in the midfield by the gaffer.
