“Play in every game”: Reds midfielder sets target for next season

Naby Keita aiming to step up his game for Liverpool next season

Naby Keita has set himself the target of improving upon his performances from last season for Liverpool. The Guinean had a good run in the team in the previous campaign as he impressed Jurgen Klopp with his performances.

Keita signed in 2018 from RB Leipzig and failed to live up to expectations in the first three years of his Reds career. But the 27-year-old was somewhat of a revelation last season as he seemed to be back to his best.

With this in mind, speaking on his role next season via the Express

, Keita revealed his aims. The Guinean is looking to take his game to the next level for the new season.
Naby Keita had an impressive season.

“Every season, I set myself targets to try to compare and compete with what I’ve done in the previous season.

“I always try to achieve even more. Right from when I first started playing, I have always been like that.”

After establishing himself on the world stage in Germany, Liverpool swooped in for Keita. But fans were left with a bitter taste in their mouth as he failed to light up Anfield.

Klopp used him less and less as seasons went by. But something seems to have changed and the manager now looks at the midfielder a lot more favourably.

Keita realises that he took a few steps forward in the last term. The 27-year-old would like to continue in this fine vein of form and play every game he can. The Guinean is also focused on scoring more goals.

Naby Keita has had a hard time at Liverpool over the years.

“Last season went pretty well – I played in a lot of games, which we won. This season, I would like to do the same again and play in every game I can.

“More than anything else, it’s just to help the team out and maybe get on the scoresheet more.”

Keita featured in 40 games in the last campaign and played over 2000 minutes, much more than in previous seasons. He scored four goals and provided three assists in that run.

The Guinean’s impressive displays have earned him a place in Klopp’s plans. And the midfielder has also managed to get the Anfield crowd behind him once again.

Fans will hope Keita keeps on performing at a top level. With only a year left on his contract, it will also be good to see the Guinean pledge his future with Liverpool.
