“Diogo is not here”- Jurgen Klopp provides injury update on two key Liverpool stars

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provides Alisson Becker injury update

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker is close to making his return from an abdominal injury, but he won’t play against RB Salzburg on Wednesday.

The Brazil international is almost ready to return to goalkeeping after suffering an injury before the preseason game against Manchester United two weeks ago.

The 29-year-old’s return would be a huge boost for the Reds as they will face Manchester City in a FA Community Shield match on Saturday.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the German manager spoke about the current status of his players as they brace themselves to face a tough challenge against table toppers RB Salzburg. He said:

“Obviously Diogo (Jota) is not here, that’s clear, but from the boys who are injured but are here, Ali is the closest – definitely not for Salzburg but then we will see. He is close to getting back I think.”

Additionally, Jurgen Klopp has stated that none of his players will play the entire 90 minutes against the German side in order to prepare them for the crucial tie against the Citizens on Saturday. This year’s preseason was shorter than normal, so the coaching staff would have progressively increased the players’ workload in preparation for another busy season.

The 29-year-old had a fantastic season last year and was crucial to the Red’s journey in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. They may have lost both titles, but they got as close as anyone possibly could to winning them.

The fans would cherish the goalkeeper’s vital contribution in the FA Cup final against Chelsea, where he demonstrated his calmness in key situations.

Liverpool have had a difficult preseason due to the injuries to key players like Diogo Jota and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who have also been absent for the ongoing games.

The Reds will undoubtedly work hard to get their No 1 in action against Manchester City, and they would hope that the Brazilian can help them win an early title.

If not, Caiomhin Kelleher is no slouch either. Jota’s potential absence won’t hurt too if Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah keep fit until then.
