Speaking to The Mirror, Liverpool’s right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold spoke about how teams other than Manchester City and Liverpool have grown from strength to strength from the last season, and pose a bigger threat than they were in the previous campaign.
Prior to the season opener on Saturday, the 23 year old admits that winning the league is a major goal for him next season. He also added that it could be a tough ask given that the level of opposition has improved.
With Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur having strengthened their squads, and Manchester United in the mix as well, this Premier League season could go down to the wire once again.
“The likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are all strengthening. There are world class managers everywhere in the league too. The aim is obviously to win the league. But I think this year could be the one of the hardest ones to win because of the level of opposition. It’s gone up another level once again.”
The Premier League is never an easy playground and Liverpool will do well not to take it lightly. The fact that the players are aware of the challenges will hold us in good stead ahead of the new campaign. There is no room for complacency and we know that well.
Alexander-Arnold was also tipped by Liverpool assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders to be Liverpool’s future captain. The fact that he appears keen to take challenges head on is a good sign for the team’s future.
The Reds’ start their season with a trip to Craven Cottage to face newly promoted team Fulham followed by Crystal Palace at home and Manchester United away.
The right-back who recently garnered interest from La Liga giants, FC Barcelona, is on a contract with the club until 2025, which rightly should be extended for his playing career. He has been such an integral part of the team’s success over the years, and has often been termed as Liverpool’s ‘Golden Boy’ after Steven Gerrard.
