Transfer News: Liverpool are interested in Leroy Sane
According to Spanish outlet El Nacional (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are considering a move for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.
The former Manchester City star has emerged as a potential target due to his complicated situation at the Bavarian club. The report adds that Liverpool are weighing this option as Roberto Firmino’s future remains uncertain.
Sane is one of the most deadly wingers in the Premier League during his time at the Etihad. The 26-year-old has terrifying pace and made over 130 appearances for the Cityzens during his four stay here.
The German international had a decent last season with Bayern winning the DFL-Supercup and Bundesliga. He was pivotal in the squad as he made a total of 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and assisting another 15.
Bayern have added Sadio Mane from Liverpool in their squad this summer. This has increased the competition for Sane at the Allianz Arena, alerting rival clubs to the situation. The Bundesliga champions will allow the German star to leave for €55 million.
With Mane gone and Firmino’s future uncertain, Sane would make a decent signing for the Reds. A proven Premier League player, his pace is something that will benefit Jurgen Klopp’s men when they counter-attack.
But he will still face competition at Anfield too given the presence of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez. Given that Bayern are unlikely to sell Sane for cheap, it will be wise for Klopp to solve the Firmino issue and retain his services.
