“They make a big deal out of everything”- Luis Suarez sends Darwin Nunez message after Liverpool red card

Luis Suarez sends message for Darwin Nunez after his red card for Liverpool against Crystal Palace

In an interview with Telemundo (h/t Liverpool Echo), former Liverpool and Barcelona striker Luis Suarez talked about how we spoke to Darwin Nunez and advised him a few things he’d need to know adjusting to living in the Premier League.

Darwin Nunez picked up a red card in his first home game for Liverpool, for headbutting Crystal Palace’s centre-back Joachim Andersen. The Danish troubled Nunez all game, and the frustrations of the 23-year-old eventually showed.

Darwin’s senior Uruguay team-mate Suarez knows the Premier League and stands in a good position to guide Nunez, as even the former Ajax striker was on the controversial side more often than not. He spoke about his conversations with Liverpool’s new number 27.

“It’s nothing serious, we’ve all made a mistake. The problem is that he’s only just arrived over there and in England, to put it lightly, they make a big deal out of everything.

“With what happened to him the other day I was talking to him. Don’t give them any more chances, it’ll only get worse. Because he is just starting out and to make him aware that from now on [opponents] will be seeking him out twice or three times more often.

He added that seeing his temperament against Crystal Palace, other defenders from the Premier League would look to exploit this weakness in his game and try to be more mental than physical with their approach against Darwin.

The former Atletico Madrid striker called himself an “idiot“, who suffered from making mistakes repeatedly and how that shaped him to be what he is now. Two such instances he could be the infamous bites on Branislav Ivanovic of Chelsea and Giorgio Chiellini of Italy; during both occasions, he was on the books of Liverpool.

“Even more so in England – he’s hearing this from an idiot who make mistakes and suffered for them, but falling down and getting up again made me stronger.”

He lauded Nunez’s ability to listen and is of the belief that the 23-year-old will “turn things round” soon after completing his suspension.

Nunez will serve his three-match suspension and return in the first week of September. He is set to miss out on fixtures against Manchester United, AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle United in that time frame.

This was certainly a needless incident for the club and its fans. The Reds salvaged a draw against the Eagles but if it wasn’t for Roberto Firmino’s return to training from injury, then they could have been without a natural centre-forward in their ranks for a couple of weeks.
