“That’s how it is”- Jurgen Klopp admits to losing out on a midfielder this summer

Liverpool Transfer News: Jurgen Klopp admits to losing out on a midfielder this summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he wanted to sign a midfielder this summer but he decided to join another club.

Speaking to reporters (as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter), the Reds boss said:

“We were going for midfielder but that midfielder decided to go to another club. That can happen… Some players are not available now but for us really interesting. That’s how it is – so we can make that decision.”

The German manager did not give out a name, and it isn’t clear who he was referring to with his comments. The Reds have been understandably on the lookout for a new midfielder.

The injury crisis in midfield would remind fans of a similar issue they faced in the 2020/21 season – but that time it was in their defence. The Reds signed no one to replace the outgoing Dejan Lovren in the summer of 2020.

Klopp left it too late

One by one, their senior defenders got injured and that was a season to forget. However, they did manage an impressive third-place finish by the end of that campaign.

Certainly, our fans wouldn’t want a repeat of that this season. Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been sidelined for now with injuries.

The trio has had their fair share of troubles with fitness since they joined the Reds. Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, as a result, have had to play some minutes in central midfield for Klopp.

James Milner, at 36, cannot be expected to start each game and make a tangible impact each time while Jordan Henderson’s blandness on the ball leaves a lot to be desired at times when the Reds are in the final third.

Ruben Neves, Moises Caicedo, and Konrad Laimer are some of the names

the Merseysiders have been linked with this summer. The window is set to be shut on September 1, which doesn’t leave the Reds with a lot of time if they want to sign a new midfielder.
