Transfer News: Liverpool and Chelsea were both rebuffed in their approach for Jude Bellingham this summer

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool were not the only ones who were interested in Jude Bellingham. Rivals Chelsea also made an approach but were rebuffed by Borussia Dortmund.

Bellingham is one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe currently. But Dortmund are reluctant to sell another star player this summer, after having lost Erling Haaland to Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently going through a midfield crisis. And as such the German boss is eager to add the midfielder to his ranks. But he is now expected to wait until next summer to make a fresh approach for the 19-year-old.

The 19-year-old England international joined Die Schwarzbelgen in 2020. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best young midfielders not only in Germany but in Europe.

He provided 14 assists in 44 games in all competitions last season for the Bundesliga giants. Klopp could do with such a fascinating player within his ranks, especially with the crisis in the midfield department.

But the Englishman’s current contract runs till 2025 and it is believed that he is valued around £100 million

by his current side. Such a price is highly likely to be a hindrance, especially with so little time left before the deadline day.

It is highly unlikely that Bellingham will leave the Bundesliga side this season. With two days left till the market closes, Dortmund would not want to lose their star player. Although, the same cannot be said for next summer or maybe even the January window.

There is no doubt that the Reds will face competition for the signature of the 19-year-old. But that will be a fight next summer. Currently, Klopp needs to add reinforcements to his midfield, or it could be a long season ahead for him and the Anfield faithful.
