Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo, who recently signed for the Reds on loan from Juventus, is excited to start his new chapter. The Brazilian has said that it was a dream of his to play for the Merseysiders.
Arthur joined Liverpool on deadline day and became the fourth addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad this summer. The Reds had already gotten the deals for Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho over the line before the Brazilian’s arrival.
Speaking to the club’s official website via Liverpool Echo, Arthur expressed joy at being able to play in the red shirt. He had conversations before the move and the 26-year-old feels the Merseysiders are the appropriate side for him.
“I’m really, really happy to be here wearing this great shirt with this famous badge that represents so much in world football, it’s a dream.
“We talked a lot, and our ideas and visions were a good fit so I’m sure it was the right choice. I’m really happy and highly motivated to continue living my dream on the pitch and giving my all in a Liverpool shirt.”
Arthur has played for some of the biggest teams in Europe. The Brazilian joined Barcelona in the summer of 2018 from Gremio. With the Camp Nou side, the 25-year-old spent two seasons.
For the 2020/21 campaign, Arthur moved to Juventus. The Serie A side have been going through a rough spell over the last few years. And the Brazilian has not been as important a player for the Old Lady as some fans had hoped for.
Arthur played against Liverpool in the Champions League at Anfield. The Brazilian came on as a substitute as the Reds emphatically beat the Blaugrana 4-0 to reach the finals in the 2018/19 season.
“Liverpool have a wonderful history in football. I’ve played against Liverpool, I know what it feels like to be in the stadium with the fans behind them.
“I was with the opposition and now I’m on the right side so I’m really excited. It’s a massive club with a great manager, great players. As I said before, it’s a dream to be here.”
At a time when Liverpool have an apparent crisis in the middle of the park due to injuries, the signing of Arthur is important. The Brazilian is a technically sound player with the ball at his feet.
At the moment, Liverpool are without the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita. Jordan Henderson also picked up an injury during the Newcastle United game.
Arthur hasn’t had the best of times with injuries over the years either, picking up small niggles on occasions. Hopefully, the 26-year-old can remain fit for Klopp to count on in the long season ahead.
