“Bit too emotional”- Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp offers words of wisdom to Darwin Nunez

Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp wants output in terms of goals and not emotions from Darwin Nunez

The Reds broke their transfer record to secure the services of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from SL Benfica for £85m. But his turbulent start to life in Liverpool colours is something least expected. In only his third competitive appearance for Liverpool, he received a red card for headbutting Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen.

He’s the first player under Jurgen Klopp’s management in Merseyside sent off for aggressive behaviour. Defenders in the Premier League will look to target this side of his game. Hence, he should look to soften his demeanour and focus on the bigger picture.

Gaffer Jurgen Klopp also spoke about the same thing and how Darwin should look to be “ready for these things” and not get riled up too quickly. The German spoke about how Nunez could take the ball in his court and use certain moments well. (h/t The Guardian

“But when a player is talking to you a lot or is really physical then he is not in his own game, and he [Núñez] has to use these moments as well. If the other one is too busy wanting to distract him, you just have to use it from a football point of view.”

The former SL Benfica striker is finally now in contention to make it to the squad. He can be a part of Liverpool’s starting XI against Everton on the weekend. Given the high intensity of a derby game, it becomes undoubtedly very important to think of the team as a whole. Klopp also brought light to the fact that emotions are already high, and there is no real necessity to go overboard.

“It was a lot that came together for the boy, it is all new, it was has first home game, a lot of excitement, the emotional level you go into a game is already high, you don’t need to be a bit too emotional.”

What next for Liverpool’s #27

Liverpool spending such a huge amount on him only for him to be on the sidelines makes absolutely no sense. And he should make it a case to prove to everyone that it was a one-off incident. There is no doubt about his skill level, but he should be able to play to showcase the same.

These three game weeks must’ve been a very important lesson for the 23-year-old who was extremely vocal from the bench against Newcastle as well. But nevertheless, Klopp trusts him to control his outbursts and show more maturity.
