Report: Liverpool target could be available for free in 2023

Liverpool could sign summer transfer Konrad Laimer target for free in 2023

Liverpool’s conquest of Konard Laimer towards the ending moments of the Transfer Deadline Day was brushed-off by RB Leipzig. The German outfit didn’t want to lose out on their player so late in the window. And hence, rejected the deal (h/t Liverpool.com).

Laimer’s contract runs down next summer, and RB Leipzig have potentially lost out on the chance to cash in on the Austrian. If the club manages to get Laimer on a free next summer, it would mean two of Liverpool’s biggest transfer targets joining at the price of one. But of course, that would mean Jude Bellingham agrees to join the Reds in 2023.

Florian Plettenberg (Sky Germany) reported that an extension for Laimer is unlikely, and Bayern are also in contention for him. This means that Liverpool can enter a negotiation war alongside Munich for the 25-year-old.

Konrad Laimer is on the transfer radar of Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Laimer and Liverpool

According to that report, FIFA rules forbid Bayern Munich from holding talks as early as January. Here is where Liverpool can come into the picture and start negotiations as early as possible.

Joel Matip had joined the Reds in 2016 on a free transfer from Schalke 04, and a potential swoop for Laimer is drawing comparisons with the Cameroonian. Six years since Liverpool had a big player join the Reds on a free. Laimer signing up will do either party a world of good, as he also enters his peak around the same time.

Liverpool though, for this season have balanced their books out by not spending huge money and also getting on a new figure in the middle of the park. Having signed Arthur on loan from Juventus, there is a new creative spark added to the team.

By next year, Jordan Henderson will be 33. Thiago will be 32. Naby Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner would’ve moved on and Liverpool would be entering a transition phase. Therefore, it becomes necessary to go out and buy a midfielder next summer.

In 43 appearances across all competitions last season, he scored five goals and made six assists for RB Leipzig. His aggressive, high-press style of play suits Liverpool like a glove to be fair. He can turn out to be a better midfield signing than the last time we visited Leipzig for a midfielder, in Naby Keita.

He had a great outing against Liverpool in the Pre-Season friendly, and maybe that is what pushed the Reds to sign the midfielder.
