Injury Update: Liverpool superstar to resume training on Monday

Liverpool handed a major injury boost with Thiago Alcantara set to return to first-team training

According to the club’s official website, Liverpool starlet Thiago Alcantara will resume team training on Monday. A hamstring issue against Fulham early in the season forced him out of the squad. After a pretty abysmal game against Everton, it is crystal clear that the Reds need a spark in the midfield.

Liverpool have certainly missed a presence like Thiago in the midfield for 5 games now. The Reds have started James Milner instead of the Spaniard and the difference in quality would be clearly visible to a blind man. Most recently, Diogo Jota made his way back from injury last week.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder’s presence certainly makes a huge difference on the pitch. His off-the-charts creativity and technicality will certainly help the team in more ways than one. Last season as well, the Spaniard missed quite a few games owing to different injuries.

Gaffer Jurgen Klopp spoke about Thiago’s situation in the post-match conference after the draw at Everton. The ex-Barca midfielder is in contention for the Napoli game, but not 100% confirmed as per Klopp.

“For the Napoli game I’m not sure; probably Thiago can train from Monday, but that’s then two days’ training so what does that mean? If, that’s not 100 per cent sure.”

Fabio Carvalho also suffered a knee injury in the Everton fixture. Jordan Henderson limped off the pitch against Newcastle after a hamstring injury. Thiago’s return cannot come sooner for the Reds who are crying out loud for a midfielder.

New loan signing Arthur Melo was part of the matchday squad against our Merseyside rivals but probably did not train enough to feature. Next game though, he could possibly be starting in midfield alongside Harvey Elliot and Fabinho Tavares.

Since arriving at the club in 2020, Thiago has amassed a total of 71 appearances for the Reds. This number would have easily been in excess of 100, but two major calf and knee injuries saw his miss out on 27 appearances over two seasons.

His return could not come at a better time for the Reds, with multiple midfielders currently injured. As fans, we can only hope for him to stay fit for as long as possible because he is too good a player to miss out on game time.
