Former Liverpool player Stephen Warnock questions Mohamed Salah’s form

Speaking to Sky Sports News, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock questioned Mohamed Salah’s current form and says that he hasn’t been the same since the AFCON competition.

Since February, after returning from the African Cup of Nations, he managed just seven league goals from 15 appearances. Warnock sounded worried about Salah’s form and thinks maybe he would need a break from starting week in, week out.

“The big question is Salah’s form, seven goals since the Afcons, not really looking like he can beat a player or how we have seen him in the past”

A UEFA Champions League game might help him break the goal drought, as it brings a change to the daily proceedings of a league campaign and brings a new dynamic in. During this Premier League season, Salah has two goals and two assists from six appearances.

Even though these are not bad by any terms, it is the standards that Salah has set for himself that make it seem that he is out of form. Warnock thinks that a few games on the bench and a few chopping and changing in the front-line might push the ex-Chelsea winger to get right back on track.

“Will Klopp have a big decision to make and maybe change round that front line in a couple of games just to give him a bit of a spell out of the game after signing that big contract?”

Salah, just before the pre-season began, had signed a long-term contract with the Reds keeping him at Liverpool until 2025. After a poor run of form following that deal, it is natural if some people ask if the former AS Roma man has become complacent.

The one stat which has seen an improvement is Salah’s chances created per 90. It has seen a revelation off-late, as he is creating almost twice the number of chances from last season. There was also a theory in between that Klopp is using Salah as a wide-playmaker, instead of his natural role of a finisher.

Jurgen Klopp had denied such allegations and believed that Salah will get back his form as soon as possible.

God forbid that this loss of form is permanent and just a temporary blip in the otherwise always reliable Mohamed Salah. He was notably poor in our recent loss against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League, where we lost by a 4-1 margin.
