“Counting on him” – Guinea boss gives injury update on Liverpool midfielder

Guinea boss offers clarity on injured Liverpool star Naby Keita

In the recent set of events, there is an element of confusion present between Liverpool and the Guinean national team regarding Naby Keita.

According to Liverpool Echo, Keita has not featured for Liverpool since the Community Shield win over Manchester City due to injuries and predicted that there would be a few more weeks before he makes his return.

However, Keita has been named by his national team boss for the upcoming International fixtures in spite of the player being sidelined due to injury.

This created a sense of confusion amongst Liverpool regarding Keita being left out of Liverpool’s official UEFA Champions League group stage player list.

However, Guinea boss Kaba Diawara has laid water on all fan conspiracy theories and has admitted that Keita is indeed injured and will continue his rehabilitation with the national team.

Explaining his importance to the team even if he is injured, the Guinea boss said:

“We took a group of 24 players precisely to give him a chance to be able to count on him because he is a very important player for us, on and off the pitch, he is our captain.

The national boss is hopeful of a rapid recovery for Keita and expects him to contribute to the upcoming fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp offers updates on Naby Keita and the injury situation at Liverpool.

Keita has not been able to integrate himself fully into the first team following his move from RB Leipzig mostly due to a fair share of injuries for the player at Anfield.

More Liverpool News:

With his contract running out next summer (transfermarkt)and the chances of his extending are far from certain. This might be the make-or-break season for the midfielder and would be hoping he has a stable recovery to survive the full season.

If he is able to recover well in time as predicted by his Guinea boss, minutes under his belt would actually benefit the midfielder to regain match fitness and fight for a place in the Liverpool squad.
