“We’re gonna make this right”- Liverpool superstar promises to turn things around following Napoli setback

Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk opens up following Napoli thrashing

According to the official club Twitter account, speaking after the game, Liverpool superstar Virgil van Dijk gave a candid response to the club’s nightmare 4-1 loss to Napoli in their opening UEFA Champions League group stage clash.

The Reds looked off the pace and found themselves four goals down. It could have been much worse had Alisson Becker not saved a first half-penalty. Liverpool were all over the place and were second best in virtually all important departments.

Van Dijk, the club’s defensive lynchpin also struggled to get going and lacked his usual dominant self. Speaking after the game, he admitted to as much in no uncertain terms.

The Dutchman went on to add that the results and the position that Liverpool find themselves in are not the best. He believes the team needs to stick together and turn this tide around. Having battled insurmountable odds earlier, the Reds are no strangers to having their backs against the wall.

“We’re gonna make this right. That is the confidence i have. [In the team]. We need each other and we need to stick together”

Van Dijk also believes the players will turn things around. Given that we have already lost enough points, there is no time to waste for the Reds to get their season back on track.

Virgil van Dijk needs his football to do the talking once again.

Liverpool have won just two out of their first seven matches across all competitions. The current bad patch is as bad as anything we have seen under Klopp’s reign at Anfield. Van Dijk does not mince words and admits

to the team being off-form.

“Sometimes we can have a bad patch and right now we are in it. I am confident that we can get out of this and enjoy our football again”

While it is still early days, Liverpool clearly have a lot of work to do. The squad could do with a few fresh faces but does not lack winners who can turn the tide around. Led by van Dijk and co, Klopp’s men will hopefully return to their best soon.

Klopp and co were bound to hit a poor patch of form sooner or later. What matters is how we adapt and respond to the setbacks experienced so far. Getting off to a win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend would be a good start.
