Inter Milan are considering selling Nicolo Barella, who was on Liverpool’s radar previously

According to Italian outlet CalcioMercatoWeb (h/t Liverpool Echo), Inter Milan are considering selling star midfielder Nicolo Barella in the January transfer window, who was on Liverpool’s radar in the summer.

The coronavirus pandemic and its aftermath of financial scrutiny on football clubs were felt all over Europe. While Premier League clubs, with their immense commercial presence, were able to sustain the losses, many others could not.

Inter Milan came under that category and faced heavy losses

following the pandemic, hence the need to generate revenue through player sales.

Inter won the scudetto in the 2020/21 season however that was not enough to cover the losses suffered and resulted in one of their best players, Romelu Lukaku, leaving the club for a record fee of £100million.

In order to continue the approach to generate more revenue to balance the books, it is claimed that Inter Milan are now willing to sell Barella, one of their most prized assets.

Liverpool would be wise to keep their eyes on Barella

Liverpool knows the need for quality reinforcements in midfield with contracts of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita expiring next summer.

Arthur Melo has been signed as a stop-gap solution in a loan deal from Juventus but there is widespread acknowledgement of the requirement of quality midfielders needed to challenge for the top honours.

Italian international Barella is currently one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe and possesses all the prerequisites for a top-quality player.

Inter Milan have its hands tied due to financial issues and this presents an opportunity for other big clubs to make a move.

Liverpool have shown previous interest in the player and with a market value of around €70million set for the player, it would be wise to suggest that Jurgen Klopp would be waiting for the right opportunity to strike a deal for the midfielder.
