Report: Liverpool hold UCL fixture belief after Wolves fixture is postponed

Liverpool training for Ajax Amsterdam clash after Wolves clash postponed

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are expecting the UEFA Champions League game against Ajax Amsterdam to go ahead as planned and manager Jurgen Klopp could conduct his press conference on Monday at Anfield ahead of the match.

The Premier League announced earlier today that this weekend’s league fixtures will be postponed in the wake of Her Majesty The Queen’s passing on Thursday, September 8.

Naturally, the two Liverpool fixtures that follow the now-postponed league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers would also be cast in a shadow of doubt. However, the Reds expect the game against Ajax to go ahead as planned on Tuesday night.

Liverpool host the Dutch outfit at Anfield on September 13 in their second UCL group stage game this season. The Reds are in Group A with Rangers, Napoli, and Ajax Amsterdam – a relatively straightforward group from which they are expected to qualify with relative ease.

Liverpool need a win on Tuesday

The game against Napoli, however, has complicated all the equations. The Reds were dominated by Luciano Spalletti’s team in Naples earlier this week as they lost 4-1 on the night.

Ajax, led by manager Alfred Schreuder, recorded a comfortable 4-0 win against Rangers in their opening group stage fixture. For the Reds, Napoli away was always going to be the toughest fixture in the group stage this season, at least on paper.

With that out of the way, the focus has to shift to beating Ajax in Liverpool as the Dutch champions are realistic competitors when it comes to making it out of this group.

More Liverpool News:

The Reds are then scheduled to face Chelsea on Sunday, September 18, at Stamford Bridge. It remains to be seen if that Premier League game goes ahead as planned. If it doesn’t, our next league fixture could well be the one against Brighton &Hove Albion on October 1 after the international break.
